Fonts

I've been trying to get Malayalam fonts working in my Linux dubba. Thanks to suggestions by Paul http://groups.yahoo.com/group/varamozhi/message/572. Now I can use the software Varamozhi to type Malayalam (you can type 'Manglish' and get the corresponging Malayalam!). In one of the previous postings, I did put some Malayalam. If you have Chowara font, you would have been able read it. I will be using either Chowara or Kerala fonts for posting here. Links to get them are given in the Varamozhi website.

jayan,
It's me again...

I came to your site accidentaly. I have a suggestion. Please dont' use chowara or kerala for blogging in malayalam. use unicode instead. There are plenty of malayalam blogs using unicode. Unicode is the way to go. You can use varamozhi to create the post and then use File->Export to unicode option to generate the unicode post. You can use anjali old lipi or rachana font for unicode malayalam. If you have any questions, please post in the varamozhi forums.

For a list of malayali bloggers visit: cs.princeton.edu/~mp/malayalam/blogs/

Thanks Paul for your suggestion. I have not been able to get the Unicode part working yet in Varamozhi. I will try that first and then try posting in unicode.

Jayan,
the rendering problem is easy to solve. In blog settings, edit your template and change the font to AnjaliOldLipi.

If it doesn't work as you expect, please mail me at paul - at - chintha.com

Jayan,
If you are using Linux, Mozhi Keymap can help you to write unicode malayalam directly in browser/text editor/chat application. It works in the same fashion as Tavultesoft keyman works for windows. More details can be found here.
